Geometric manicure

I hope all of you guys had an amazing weekend!

Today I’m showing you one of my experiments with the nail art striping tape. It is a little different than the Fishnet Mani I posted earlier.

I had a completely different idea at first planning on actually using the tape. But in the end I liked the result without the tape better.

I used:
- OPI Mermaid's Tears;
- Orly Purple Velvet;
- Priti NYC Horned Poppy.

Candeo Colors Sprouse

Candeo Colors Sprouse is a black and white glitter of different shapes and sizes with some blue holo glitter included. It’s quite close to Lynnderella’s Connect the Dots, but there’s more glitter in it and blue glitter makes it a little different.

Kleancolor Mango

Kleancolor Mango is a nice summer shade. The color is very close to that of a real mango. It’s a neon yellow-orange crème.

Deborah Lippmann Red Ruby Slippers and Spoiled Ants in My Pants Comparison

Hello Ladies,

Today I’m comparing DL Red Ruby Slippers and the cheaper alternative Spoiled Ants in My Pants. The polishes don’t look as similar in the bottles as they look on the nails.

deborah lippmann red ruby slippers dupe spoiled ants in my pants

I usually don’t use any base color for Red Ruby Slippers, but Ants in my pants jelly base is so sheer, that I used black base to compare both polishes.

As you can see from the pictures, the polishes are strikingly similar. Spoiled Ants in My Pants is definitely a very close dupe for DL Red Ruby Slippers. There’re couple of differences:

- Ants in My Pants has fewer small red glitter particles;
- Red Ruby Slipper’s formula is much better. Spoiled glitter is runny and the brush is gigantic!

If you don’t want to spend money to get DL, Spoiled is a good alternative. Be prepared to sacrifice quality and ease of application though.

Max factor Fantasy Fire Giveaway!

Hi Everyone!

It’s time for my next giveaway! I was lucky to get my hands on 2 bottles of Max Factor Fantasy Fire, which is considered to be a close dupe of Clarins 230 aka Unicorn Pee. It’s not available in US and sold out in Boots by now, so I thought it would be nice to make another nail polish addict happy and give away an extra bottle.

This giveaway is for 1 Bottle of Fantasy Fire. The rules are standard. The giveaway is international.

Please, make sure that you leave the e-mail that you read frequently. During my last giveaway I had to choose other winners, because I did not get the response on time.

GOOD LUCK!

Max Factor Fantasy Fire

Nail Polish community buzzed about Max Factor Fantasy Fire for quite a while now. And it’s definitely worth the attention. Fantasy Fire is considered to be one of the closest dupes of Clarins 230 aka Unicorn Pee when layered with the colored base. I’m sure you know by now that this polish is hard to get, especially in US. The prices on eBay reach $20-30 per bottle that taking into account small size, it is more expensive than Unicorn Pee price.

Fantasy Fire is a red/copper/green shimmer in a purple jelly base. It looks great alone, but layered over the dark polishes gives an amazing multi-chrome effect. Personally, I think the polish really stands out with the dark blue, purple or black bases.

I also got an extra bottle that I’m giving away. I will open Max Factor Fantasy Fire Giveaway giveaway in an hour. Good Luck!

Revlon Passionate Pink with Gold Studs

I spotted new Revlon ColorStay in the newly opened CVS near my work. Usually, all the pretty polishes in the local CVS near me are sold out by the time I get there. This time I was able to pick up some new lovely shades I haven’t seen in the other stores.

One of them was Passionate Pink – bright pink jelly. It is a very lovely summer shade that would look cool on the toes. The formula is totally different from the older Revlon polishes as well as the packaging and the brush. I like the new formula it dries fast, but not runny. The only thing I don’t like is the new brush – it is a little wide the size of my nails.

For the decoration I used golden stud rhinestones I got on eBay.

Kleancolor Cappuccino

Cappuccino is a medium brown crème. It’s not a fancy or trendy shade and definitely not a spring one. I just thought I’d pick it up because I don’t have this color.

The formula is good. It’s easy to apply and dries fast. I used 2 coats.

Chanel Distraction

I love Chanel nail polishes and once in a while when the brand launches new collection I cannot resist. Also Chanel has never done anything extraordinary in terms of nail polish textures; there is at least one color every season that stands out from the nail polish “crowd”.
I was looking for an elegant coral nail polish for almost a year now. When you have more than 300 polishes you become very picky about the slightest differences in the color. I couldn’t find what I wanted: some of the polishes were too bright, so, on contrary, too pale.
Chanel Distraction from the Roses Ultimes Collection is exactly what I wanted – not too pink or red and not too orange. It’s a delicate coral shade with pink shimmer that is almost not visible on the nails. I used 2 coats. The only downside in this polish for me is the brush. It’s too narrow. Overall, I didn’t have problems with the application.

Candeo Jellybean

I’ve recently discovered another really cool indie brand – Candeo Colors.

Candeo Jellybean is light mustard creme with bright hexagon purple, blue and pink glitter. It also contains tiny lime, yellow and pink particles.

I wish I’ve received it before Easter; it reminds me of a fancy painted egg
J

The formula is really good. I generally prefer to use this kind of nail polishes without the base. In the case of Jellybean , creamy base is pigmented enough. I used 2 coats.

You can check out Candeo Colors nail polish collection on Etsy (here) or on Facebook (here).

Hungry Asian Strawberry

Today’s post is about Strawberry by Hungry Asian. The idea is so simple, yet the implementation is fantastic. The vibrant bold red color and black small glitter create quite a realistic effect.

Strawberry's formula is very easy to apply, and the nail polish dries in seconds. I used 2 coats and Butter London top coat for a little extra shine. The polish is very thin and a little runny, but I had no problems with application at all. I actually liked that it is very airy and lightweight.

I ordered my Hungry Asian Polishes through her Etsy store, but you can also check out her blog for more information (here).

A-England Princess Tears

Princess Tears is a subtle gracious lilac holo with dusty grey flashes. It doesn’t have a screaming holographic effect, but slight grey base shows under the certain light as a touch of sadness.

Kleancolor Sparkle Emerald

Sparkle Emerald is a glitter top coat with an iridescent touch. The glitter is teal, green and silver. This polish is definitely not associated in my mind with the vibrant color of the emerald. It reminds me of a mermaid.

I used Girly Bits Stormy Skies as a base. Overall, Kleancolor Sparkle Emerald is stunning. Formula has couple of downsides similar to that of other Kleancolor jelly based polishes: it’s thick and dries forever even with Seche Vite.

If you are patient enough to wait until it dries you won’t be disappointed with it

Fishnet Manicure with Zoya Bevin

Hi Ladies,

Some time ago I bought striping tape for nail art on eBay (here). It’s inexpensive and you can make a lot of interesting geometric designs using it. I bought 12 rolls of different colors for 3$.
So, in upcoming weeks you will see me posting some nail art using striping tape once in a while
J

As a base I used Zoya Bevin from True Collection. It’s a beautiful dusty baby blue with grey undertones.

The tape I used is black with the prism effect that you can see on some of the pictures.

Orly Purple Velvet

Orly Purple Velvet is one of the first matte polishes on the market. It’ was a part of Matte Collection of 2009.

Purple Velvet is a deep grape purple with velvet finish. The polish when dry also has a slight rubber effect.

I like to use it as a base coat for flakies and other fancy top coats, because the color is opaque, it dries fast and makes the smooth base foundation.

Kleancolor Holo Green

Kleancolor Holo Green is a light lime holographic nail polish. I love the color, but the formula is horrible.
Holo Green has a jelly base that dries extremely slowly. One coat coverage is too thick, but doesn't give enough opacity.
With that said, if you manage to wait until it dries J; the final effect is very sparkly and pretty.

Revlon Facets of Fuchsia

I have had Facets of Fuchsia for a while now, but it completely got lost in my other glitters. I think it deserves some attention.

Facets of Fuchsia is a black jelly nail polish with purple glitter of different sizes. It is a dupe to Deborah Lippmann’s Bad Romance. Personally, I think it is slightly more beautiful because it have bigger particles than the latter one.

Originally Facets of Fuchsia was a limited edition nail polish, but because of the huge popularity Revlon included it in the permanent collection. Currently it goes by the name “Scandalous”.

A-England – Princess Sabra

Hi Ladies!

Today’s post is about A-England’s Princess Sabra from The Legends Collection. I saw a lot of the swatches of Princess Sabra, but as I try to cut my overspending on nail polishes, I decided that I will get only 3 from The Legends collection – Dragon, St. George and Ascalon. But…..later that month there was 30% sale on the website, so I just couldn’t pass the opportunity to get some other A-England polishes.

If you are the follower of my blog you’ve read multiple posts about how much I love A-England. The quality and the formula of all the polishes are amazing. It’s flawless, dries fast and easy to apply. The color palette is very unique as well.

Princess Sabra is an olive based holographic nail polish with golden undertones. It is not multi-chrome like half of the polishes in this collection, but it is still very unique and stunning. Holographic effect is mostly visible in fluorescent light.

Kleancolor Brown

Kleancolor Brown is an orangey brick crème. It is much darker than OPI Ginger Bells, but has the same vibe and color undertones. I can’t say that it’s brown in my opinion; nevertheless it is a pretty color.

The formula is average, it's not runny. The nail polish dries fast unlike some of the other Kleancolor polishes. The finish is glossy.

Girly Bits Stormy Skies

I ordered this one along with the Shift Happens directly from Pam. It took a while to receive, but the package was definitely worth the wait!

Stormy Skies is a mix of grey and blue cream base with tiny holo glitter. The formula is fine; I’ve seen better ones from the other indie polishes though. With that said, I absolutely love the formula of Shift Happens, so I think it is just this one. I applied 3 coats, because after a second coat I could still see some less pigmented spots. But, overall the color is lovely and it dries fast.

You can order Stormy Skies and other Girly Bits beautiful creations directly from Pam (here) or from Llarowe shop (here).
