Scotch Naturals nail polish swatches and review

Today’s review is about Scotch Naturals – eco-friendly nail polishes I recently found out about. The parcel was delivered really fast, so I had a chance to actually wear Ceasefire – one of the shades – on the Earth dayJ

Frankly speaking, I didn’t know what to expect from these “Watercolors’. Yeah…the formula consists only of water, acrylic polymer emulsion and some non-toxic colorants.

When I opened the box I thought maybe I received some old polishes. As you will see on some pictures the color fluctuation in the bottle are obvious. In regular nail polishes it happens when is not used for a while and quite old. But in this case I think it’s is due to the water base. The color of the actual nail polish in the bottle is completely fine though.

Application:

I received small brochure with the polishes. It’s advised to buff some jojoba oil!!! before applying nail polish if you have dry or parched nails. Otherwise nail polish may chip.

I would say rare person has perfectly hydrated and healthy nails and I’m not exclusion as well. I didn’t add jojoba, but I buffed my nails before the application.

The formula is very “watery”. But it dried very fast, just in couple of minutes. I used 2 coats. It feels like nails are breathing underneath nail polish. It's less shiny though.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with the nail polish, although it’s very different. I think because of the formula, it’s impossible to use it for the nail art, but as a standalone product – the quality is good.  I although think it takes more time to apply it, but it’s my personal opinion. it's just really hard to compare this nail polish with regular ones. 

I’m wearing Ceasefire since Friday and it chipped only today.

Swatches:

As I mentioned in my previous post about Scotch Naturals here, I bought Cocktail Trio. It also comes with the special nail Polish remover that works for regular nail polishes as well (quite a cool stuff!!).

First, about the “miracle” Soy Polish Remover – it’s an amazing stuff. I don’t know what ingredients are there, but definitely no acetone. It’s oily and when you remove the nail polish, you automatically hydrate and nourish nails and cuticles. I haven’t tried it yet on the regular nail polishes, but I hope it will work well too. I didn’t need to apply extra cuticle oil after removing the polish. There’s one downside though… it’s quite pricey - $11 per bottle.

So, I ordered 3 nail polishes: Hot Toddy, Lochness Mystery and Ceasefire (my favorite oneJ)

Hot Toddy is a dark brown, chocolate color. Nothing special to me.

Lochness Mystery is a lovely turquoise. Under natural light it’s more greenish.

Ceasefire is dark olive, green moss. I’m completely in love with it. It reminds me of some Butter London color (I can’t remember the name) that was instantly sold out. It’s quite a unique color – I haven’t seen so many dupes for it.

  

 

French manicure with Illamasqua Toxic Nature - Purity and Bacterium

When the Illamasqua Toxic Nature collection was released, I checked Sephora, but they didn’t seem to carry anything…neither nail polishes nor makeup.  Ordering directly from Illamasqua site is quite expensive, even for my overspending habitsJ

Whoo hoo..Last week I received e-mail from Sephora about new products and Illamasqua was one of them. They have all the Toxic collection in stock now, including full nail polish line….so I instantly bought Purity and Bacterium. Although Radium (acid green-lime) is also a nice shade, I can’t wear it to work, so I decided not to buy it.

Today’s French mani is with Purity as the base color and Bacterium tips.

Purity is a pale peach cream, gorgeous color. The application is a pain though….this collection has much longer brushes and it’s hard to neatly apply nail polish, so I messed up cuticles. Other than that, formula seems to be the same as in all  Illamasqua polishes. It dries slowly, but durability is good (4- days on average without chipping).

Color Club Revvvolution review and swatches. Black holographic nail polish comparison.

Color Club Revvvolution – amazing black holo nail polish. I love it from application to special holo finish.  Only one coat is needed for full opacity and the effect is super shiny and sparkly.

This color is something that OPI failed to include in their holographic DS Series collection. I have My Private Jet as well, but application and finish is so different from Color Club. 

I have 3 black holographic polishes so far: Golden Rose-118, OPI My Private Jet (brownish black) and CC Revvvolution.

 I decided to make a comparison is they are different or not. It turns out to be…Yes.

My Private Jet  is definitely more brown than black. I applied 3 coats to get what you see on the pics.

CC Revvvolution – is charcoal black and has more blue sparkles. It’s also more shiny than the others.

Golden Rose 118- is somewhere in the middle, It’s a true black without any grey undertones.

Under artificial light it’s almost impossible to see the difference between Color Club and Golden Rose, but in natural light – Color Club is much more sparkly than the latter.

New Nail Polish find - Scotch Naturals

I was browsing the web yesterday and found this new brand of nail polishes - Scotch Naturals. I have never heard of it before and I don't know how many of you know about it's existence.

I can't find many info about this brand except their website (here), but I really loved some of the shades, so I ordered their Cocktail Trio. I can't wait to try it out and I hope I won't be dissapointed. Some of the colors in their collection are really nice, but they are all creme polishes, no shimmer or glitter ones.

I ordered these ones:

- Ceasefire (dark olive)
- Loch Ness Mystery (turquoise)
- Hot Toddy (dark grey-brown)

As I understand this is a different type of nail polish - water based. It's also eco-friendly. That what is written on their web page:


"Scotch Naturals is a line of water-based, non-toxic polish that is free of the harsh chemicals found in most solvent-based polishes. Designed to nourish and strengthen nails with repeated use, it is non-yellowing, and requires no base or top coat."


Scotch Naturals claims to deliver long-lasting and salon quality colors - I'm a little hesitant, but definitely excited to check. No base coat or top coat required...hmm...This makes me question the durability of the polish without any base.

I should receive my parcel in less than a week and I would like to know your opinion.

What do you guys think about it and what would you expect if you were to try it the first time?

My favorite Red - OPI Affair in Red Square

I love this red, not because it's a unique shade, but it has definitely the best finish.

Affair in Red Square  is a beautiful rich wine red. But...it also has a little bit of blue shimmer that makes it quite unique.

 

P.S. One important thing I should mention thought....it's not very durable...lasts no more than 2 days without chipping:(

BUTTER London Bumster swatches and review

Bumster - quite an unusual name for the nail polish. The color is odd as well. It's a part of Fall 2010 collection.
Bumster is a pale mustard creme. It's one of the rare yellow shades I like, but most of my friends say it reminds them of baby poop:)))) It's definitely love it or hate it color.

The application is easy and 2 coats are enough in most cases for full opacity. Most of the Butter London polishes I own are of a great quality and durability, Bumster is not an exception too.

I would like to know you opinion about Bumster. What do you guys think....yes or no, Love it or hate it?

BUTTER London No More Waity Katie swatches and review

I'm a complete sucker for purple nail polishes and I was not able to ignore this one:)

BUTTER London No More Waity Katie is a limited edition nail polish released to celebrate royal marriage of Kate Middleton and Prince William. "Waity Katie" is a nickname of Kate given by a press for waiting 8 years for this marriage.
I'm not a big fan and follower of the news about royal family, but this nail polish is completely amazing. Butter London just released lip gloss of the same shade.

No More Waity Katie is a stunning grey-purple glitter. The nail polish is thick, but not that hard to apply, dries fast and lasts long. Although there's a lot of lilac glitter in it, the overall look on the nails is very classy. As you will see from the photos - the glitter is not sparkly at all, maybe that's why "Katie" is very elegant on the nails.

Here is the picture of the No More Waity Katie lip gloss. It's a little bit more purple than the nail polish. Quite a nice color as well, but nothing exceptional from my personal standpoint.

Golden Rose Holographic Iced Latte swatches and comparison with OPI DS Design

I already swatched Black holographic Golden Rose here. I bought Iced Latte as well. It’s a nice neutral holo, perfect for office manicure, but quite shiny to notice it. Good color overall, but I also have OPI DS Design and I will compare these two in this post as well.

Frankly speaking, I didn’t see that much of a difference. Golden Rose formula is thicker than OPI, but application is quite easy as well. OPI is a little bit shinier, but difference is barely noticeable. The only major difference is that DS Design is much more durable (4-5 days) than Golden Rose (2-3 days), but that what you would normally expect from OPI nail polishes and huge difference in price.

In terms of color, Iced Latte is closer to cold color palette and OPI Design has obvious nude/brown undertones. In the natural daylight the difference in color is slightly noticeable, but in artificial light (lamps) you can actually see that these two are not the same.

Revlon Not So Blueberry Swatches

I couldn’t pass up this new beauty from Revlon. The color is pretty unique.
Not So Blueberry - is a new shade in Revlon’s scented nail polish collection. But don’t try to sniff it right from the bottle….it smells awfully… a mix of chemicals and acetone. But when nail polish dries, the blueberry smell is much better, although it still smells a little like…hmmm…yeah….chemicals. As long as you have this nail polish on your nails, be prepared to be able to smell it every second you have your hand close to face…it lasts long.

As I mentioned couple of times in my previous posts, I’m quite impressed with the quality of Revlon’s polishes. Not so Blueberry didn’t disappoint me as well…application is easy, it stays on without chipping for a long time and the color is amazing.

In the bottle it seems like a duo chrome, although it’s not exactly the one….under artificial light nail polish is more purple and under natural daylight it’s more blue.

OPI Touring America and Pirates of Caribbean Swatches

Overall, I think it's quite a good and smart move for OPI to utilize social media. As far as I know, none of the other brands use YouTube to show swatches of their upcoming collections.

Golden Rose Black Holographic Swatches

I got this Golden Rose nail polish and was not expecting much. IT was a really popular brand back in the day in Russia, but the quality and color palette were really poor. So, I didn’t expect much….but I’m impressed…

Golden Rose doesn’t give fancy names to the nail polishes, so on the site it was just Black, a part of Holographic collection. The color is amazing, it reminds me OPI My private Jet, but without brown undertones. It’s a little thicker than other holo nail polishes and the brush is smaller, I had no problems with application.

I will try to make a comparison with other black holographic nail polishes later today…I’m really in love
with it. 

The price of the nail polish is only $3.49 if you order directly from the Golden Rose site here and the shipping is free for the purchases of more than $20.

Weekend Manicure with Konad Dupes

Last week I read the review of MASH design plates on Beauty & Nail Art Blog. I decided to give it a try since the price seemed quite unbelievable (around $14 including shipping) for....set of 25 design plates. The shipping was blasting fast and I already tested a couple this weekend.

If I haven't owned Konad plates I would not probably be able to tell the difference, they are the same size and shape.Plates even have the same numbering as Konad.

Another pleasant thing about the MASH design plates is that the quality is surprisingly good for the price. I received some plates that I already have in Konad version and again, I wasn't able to see the difference.

Here's what I've got using China Glaze Secret Peri-wrinkle and Revlon Gold Coin for design along with MASH plate m63

Butter LONDON SWATCHES - Macbeth and Minger

These are my first Butter LONDON nail polishes and I really like the quality so far. First of all, the finish of the polishes is very glossy and shiny.

I like the fact that Butter London is 3 free (no DBP, formaldehyde or toluene). The application is easy, because the polish is not thick, and 2 coats are enough for the full opacity. This brand has a pretty diverse color palette and some colors are quite unique. The average price of the nail polish is $14, many of the regular colors can be found in OPI and CG collections for much cheaper price.

Macbeth – is coral with hints of orange and red. Very “spring” nail polish, bright and joyful, but I got bored after 1 day of wear:(. I can’t even say why I was disappointed – I like the color overall…maybe it was too plain and obvious.

Minger – is a burnt orange color. I absolutely love it…it’s ugly and amazing at the same time. Before it arrived, I expected the color to be a very bright and screaming, but it’s quite “muted”. It’s a lighter version of my favorite OPI Ginger Bells.  

My British friend said that “minger” is a slang word for disgusting, smelly or ugly person…lol.
